Why decided to leave my full time and presential job

The decision to quit a regular job, with so many people looking for a replacement, seems crazy. And maybe it is. But that is what I chose to do in 2019, given a new direction in my career.

I remember that making that decision was not easy. For that reason, I thought it would be cool to share how I decided. The goal of this article is not to say that everyone should do the same (as I said, the unemployment rates are high and I don’t want to be responsible for more!).

I just want to show how I did to help people who are in the same situation I was three years ago, feeling bad about their job and their professional future.

When the transformation started

The decision to resign from my job was the result of a long process and lots of reflection, to understand where my discontentment was.

In October 2018 I went on vacation, traveled, and had the opportunity to visit beautiful places. Far from home and my routine, I could see that the return would not be easy. Of course, returning from vacation is never easy, right?! But it was not just that.

In those 15 days out, I could see that what was bothering me was not just my job, but this work model that I was working in. Maybe, if I moved to other companies this dissatisfaction would disappear for an instant, but soon she would knock on my door again.

So how could I change that? How could I survive and pay my bills without necessarily being stuck in an office for eight hours a day? How could I own my workforce and work wherever and whenever I wanted?

Furthermore, I started to wonder if I saw myself doing what I was doing for years to come. If I was producing what I wanted, and if it was that legacy that I wanted to leave. These doubts provoked a lot of research, conversations, sleepless nights, and some mornings with a problem with getting up.

How I decided

Of course, before reaching the verdict, I needed to understand what I would do in the future, and in what direction I could take my professional life. I had a clue, but I needed to organize myself to make sure it was possible to make money from it, working from home.

I dove into a lot of research and reading on blogs and LinkedIn, and I started to follow people who did the same and were successful. This all inspires and helps me to have a north and see what I need to do to succeed in this new journey.

It was also essential to have a financial preparation that would allow me to pursue this “dream”, without problems and without depending on anyone. There are several ways to do this: some people save, cut their spending, and try some deal with the job they are at. The important thing is to have a plan.

The future belongs to me

There is a famous meme in Brazil where one person says “Your future depends only on you” and the other responds “That’s the problem”! It is very crazy to think that I was the only one responsible for my professional future. At the same time, it was this feeling that drove me to decide to leave my regular and stable job.

I no longer wanted to wait for my professional change to happen. I didn’t want to wait any longer to be able to get to Linkedin and post “REPLACED!”.

It’s not an easy journey. But are any work? The rush, the deadlines, and the necessity for results will always exist. But now the onus and the bonus of my work will be mine alone.
